STANLEY E. ROMANSTEIN, PH.D.
Dr. Romanstein,
president of the Minnesota Humanities Commission, is a teacher,
scholar and writer.
Under his leadership,
the Minnesota Humanities Commission has strengthened its commitment
to provide leadership, resources and programs that advance the study
of the humanities in schools, colleges and cultural organizations
throughout the state of Minnesota.
Dr. Romanstein
brings a wealth of leadership experience to the Humanities Commission.
He has served as executive director of the Baltimore School for
the Arts, a national leader in preparing students for careers in
the arts; as director of development for the Weisman Art Museum
(University of Minnesota, Minneapolis); and as chair of the Department
of Music at St. Lawrence University (Canton, N.Y.).
A native of
South Carolina, Dr. Romanstein has traveled extensively and has
made his home in Italy, Israel and the United States. A lover of
things Italian, he is currently pursuing a master's degree in Italian
through the University of Minnesota. In addition, Dr. Romanstein
has earned a doctorate in musicology from the College-Conservatory
of Music, University of Cincinnati. He has twice been named a Fulbright
Scholar - first to Israel and, later, to Japan. While his interests
are varied, Dr. Romanstein's work as a writer and teacher focuses
on late-16th-century Italian music and culture.
Dr. Romanstein
lives in Saint Louis Park with his wife, Shannon; her children,
Bailey and Jack; their son Benjamin; and their dog, Ruby.
