The workshop
begins on Sunday and concludes on Friday. Overnight accommodations
will be at the
Grand Ely
Lodge in Ely, MN, and the
Coates
Plaza Hotel in Virginia, MN. A
chartered bus will take participants from location to location on
the Range throughout the week.
Travel
arrangements
If
you plan to fly, we urge you to make travel arrangements early to
capture the best airline prices. We recommend that you fly into
the Minneapolis/St.
Paul International Airport (MSP).
Travel
expenses
Through its Landmarks grant, the National Endowment for the Humanities
(NEH) provides a supplement for travel expenses. Participants from
Minnesota will receive $50 to cover travel expenses. Participants
from border states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin
will receive $150 to cover travel expenses. Participants traveling
from all other states will receive $400 to cover flight or extended
driving costs.
Stipend
Participants are allotted a $500 stipend to cover meals and lodging
throughout the week. Because of the unique setting of the workshop
and the amount of traveling required between workshop sites, the
Minnesota Humanities Center would like to pool the stipend resources
to minimize any additional costs to seminar participants.
Participants
can participate in the food and lodging pool by relinquishing their
$500 stipend to the Humanities Center. Participants in the pool
will not have any additional food or lodging costs. Participants
who elect to not participate in the pool will assume all food and
lodging costs on their own. (We estimate that lodging for the full
week will exceed the $500 stipend allotment even before any meals
are included.) Please contact Minnesota Humanities Center staff
for specific details about stipend, food, and lodging expenses.
